The Alliance Public Schools
Adult and Community Education
Department believes learning is a lifelong process and attempts to offer
something for everyone. During each of the regular school semesters and the
month of June, a wide variety of recreational opportunities, hobby, craft, home
economics, business, vocational and general information classes and workshops
are offered. In addition to this, community education coordinates many college
credit classes through Western Nebraska Community College and Chadron state
college. These offerings include both graduate and undergraduate classes.
Adult Basic Education is a program
for adults 16 years of age or older who are not enrolled in regular high school.
It provides opportunities for adults of all ages to improve basic skills, earn a
high school diploma, learn to read, improve life skills, learn English, become a
United States citizen or prepare for college entrance. The program is free. For
more information, phone 308.762.9883.
The Alliance Public Schools
Special
Education Department coordinates educational services for resident
children with disabilities who are between the ages of 0 and 21 years. Parents,
physicians and other agencies initiate referrals for 0 to 5 year olds.
"Building-Level Student Assistance Teams" initiate referrals for school-aged
children. For school-aged children, parents should discuss their concerns with
their child's teacher, counselor or principal.
Alliance's
Early Childhood
Education and Head Start Program provides quality care and education to children ages
six weeks to five years. Services are provided during the school calendar year
during regular school hours. Developmentally appropriate practices are used to
maximize a young child's early learning years. Highly trained staff implement
appropriate teaching strategies to meet each child's individual needs. A sliding
fee scale based on the free and reduced lunch application is used to determine
fees for each family. We recognize that parents are their child's first and
foremost teacher and know their child better than anyone. Therefore, parental
involvement is welcome and encouraged to ensure success in their child's
educational career.
